Brad Pitt 'stunned' at 64th Venice Film Festival Best Actor win
Brad Pitt has revealed he is shocked at picking up the Best Actor title at the 64th Venice Film Festival.
The actor, who won for his performance in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, got the call whilst in Canada for the Toronto International Film Festival promoting the same film.
‘My first reaction was, “Huh?”‘ Pitt recalls. ‘I did not expect it. It’s a great honor. I am honored to be part of the list of actors who won this award. I’m still processing this.’
The 43-year-old actor said he was particularly pleased to win as the movie, written and directed by Andrew Dominik, took three years to make.
Pitt’s co-star, Casey Affleck, who plays Robert Ford, was equally happy for his friend, saying: ‘It’s a well-deserved honor for Brad. He really put himself in the hands of Andrew. He could have said, “I can do this on my own”. But he submitted himself as a ‘puppet’ of Andrew in the best possible sense of the word. He gave another dimension to Jesse James.’
And director Dominik agreed, adding: ‘I am thrilled for Brad. Directing him and this movie was like playing cowboys and Indians but on a more sophisticated level.’
Meanwhile, Cate Blanchett was named Best Actress for her role in the Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There, and is hotly tipped for Oscar success.
