How to install a heating system

You will need
  • - a gas boiler;
  • - radiators;
  • - plastic pipes;
  • - fittings and fittings;
  • - Teflon tape;
  • - a device for welding pipes;
  • - locksmith and plumbing tools.
Select the type of scheme for installation of the systemheating. Schemeheatingthey can be different - with forced and natural circulation, single-circuit and double-circuit, with and without expansion tank, single-tube and double-tube, with oncoming and following coolant flow.
The figure shows the simplest autonomous single-circuit two-pipe system with a gas boiler and an expansion tank with associated movement of the coolant. It is called single-circuit because it has only one contour along which the coolant moves. Two-pipe - because it has two pipelines - filling (red) and branch (blue). The by-pass movement of the coolant is determined bythat it is fed into the upper branch pipe of the battery and is output from the lower side from the lower branch pipe.
The decision to arrangethe systemwith forced or natural circulation depends on the length of the horizontal pipeline in one direction. If it does not exceed 20 m, the circulation can be natural, i.e. Installing a circulation pump is optional. If the house has running water, no expansion vessel is installed.
Determine the required number of batteries, as well as the material and diameter of the drawpipes. The required battery capacity for a room can be determined by a simplified formula that has the form P = 0.1 ∙ 1.15 ∙ S, where: 0.1 is the power in kW required for heating 1 m² of area, 1.15 is the factor taking into account power, S - area of premises in m².
Use plastic pipes made of polypropylene or cross-linked polyethylene as distribution pipe. They are easy to install, they create less resistance to the movement of the coolant, have a long service life. Use the following pipe diameters: for filling and discharging pipes - 50 mm (2 ″), for pipes leading to batteries and discharging from them - ¾-1 ″.
Install the gas boiler in a suitable room.All work on the installation and commissioning of a gas boiler must be performed by gas service workers.
Fix radiators on the walls. Batteries are installed in the niches under the windowsills at a distance of about 80 mm from the bottom plane of the latter. In this case, the distance from the radiator to the floor must be at least 100 mm. The axis of the batteries must coincide with the axis of the window opening. The distance from the wall to the heaters should be at least 40 mm. Install using standard brackets with batteries or self-made hooks attached to the wall with dowels.
If the house has no plumbing, install an expansion flank at the highest point of the room. As it can be used a 25-liter or 40-liter aluminum flask, which is not tightly closed with a lid without a sealing gum. On the side, at a short distance from the bottom, a fitting should be installed to connect the tank to the system.heating. If you install an expansion tank in the attic, warm it to prevent freezing in winter.
Perform pipe routing. Horizontal lines should have a slope in the direction of flow of not less than 0.5%.Connect the pipes with threaded fittings with pre-winding on the threads of Teflon tape and polyfusion welding - in places of permanent connections. For welding, use a special welding machine for plastic pipes.
When distributing pipes, pay special attention to compensating for their temperature expansions. The method of calculating compensators can be found here:, and possible pipe mounting schemes - here:
