Dog Saves Owner's Life By Lying On Him For 20 Hours In The Freezing Cold
This Dog Saving Her Owner's Life During a Seizure is The Most Powerful Thing You'll See All Day
For Shannon Locke, a 23-year-old in Northern Ireland, her dog is much more than a best friend to come home to after a long day of work. Her two-year-old Labrador also happens to be her lifesaver.
Locke suffers from severe epilepsy, and her dog Poppy can sense a seizure coming on with impeccable accuracy. In the video above, Poppy alerted her owner 15 minutes before her seizure was about to happen. So she turned the camera towards the bed and laid in a safe position before the seizure took hold of her.
When the fit was happening, you can see Poppy trying to clear her airways so she doesn't choke on an excess saliva.
Naturally, Locke was apprehensive about sharing the very personal video to Facebook.
"I've thought long and hard about posting this as it's incredibly embarrassing…but this is epilepsy," she wrote on the post. "My gorgeous seizure alert dog Poppy alerted me to this 15 minutes before, which gave me time to set the camera up. Poppy is amazing and not only does she alert me but she brings me out of the post cycle stage of a seizure."
Locke has been experiencing these seizures since she was just 17, and nowadays they occur several times a week, according toBelfast Live.
Researchers are completely fascinated about how Poppy can sense her seizures and are now doing studies on other dogs to see if they can be used to help those suffering from epilepsy throughout the world.
Even Locke is confused about how her pup can "feel" a fit coming on. She toldBelfast Live, "One day, she just started to act strange, I had no idea why. She just kept coming up to me and was panting.
