#WCW: Marion Cotillard
Truly a woman who understands how much fun you can have with hair and makeup, you can neveraccuse Marion Cotillard of playing it safe with her glamour. From big hair to the brightest lips, let's revisit some of her most iconic beauty moments.
At the premiere ofLisa, 2000.
Way back in the year 2000, Marion was an aspiring starlet with a few TV credits to her name, perfect brows and a big smile. Her role as the young version of the titular character in Lisa was considered her breakthrough in France; here in the US, we'd have to wait a few more years toreallynotice her.
At the Cannes Film Festival, 2004.
Here we see two notable things: that MC canserveas a blonde, and that she really has a penchant for elaborate updos. We're not 100% sure that the small coils and loose tendrils are the best hair choice on Earth, but we respect her for committing.
At AmfAR's 'Cinema Against AIDS Cannes' Benefit, 2004.
Cotillard is so identifiable as a brunette, it's strange to remember the year that she spent with long blonde curls. Along with her smoky eggplant eyeshadow and bright pink cheeks, this is A Lot of Look that she is pulling off with aplomb.
At the premiere ofA Good Year, 2006.
At this point in her career, Marion was a superstar at home, yet still an unknown (though steadily working) quantity in the US. Her look reflected this: you can see that she's doing all the beauty things that she likes, without really being cognizant of how they hang together. The bold eyes, baby bangs, lots of blush and intense lip color are all strong elements, and they don't look bad...they just aren't quite cohesive yet.
At the Berlin La Vie en Rosepremiere, 2007.
The A-list makeover began to happen in 2007, when she starred as Edith Piaf inLa Vie en Rose. The deep purple eye makeup and swept back hair, again, are a lot; but the seeds of a great, superstar look are definitely there.
At The Hollywood Awards, 2007.
And here it is: the true Hollywood makeover in advance ofLa Vie en Rose's big release. Cotillard's skin is glowing, enhanced slightly with peach (not bright pink) blush. Her lips are peachy and glossy. The cat eyes are simple and on point. Her hair is elaborate and unique, yet still elegant.
At the Critics Choice Awards, 2007.
With stunning deep pink lips and brown smoky eyes accented with black liner along her waterlines, Marion is the definition of French glamour: done, but not TOO done.
At the Oscars, 2008.
A star-making night. She won the Best Actress Academy Award, and her look totally killed on the red carpet. We LOVE these icy eyes combined with the side-swept, slightly red-tinted chestnut curls!
At the premiere ofPublic Enemies, 2009.
Thinkof all the secrets you could hide inside hair that big. Four for you, Marion Cotillard!
At the Golden Globes, 2010.
In case you've been wondering whether Marion Cotillard looks amazing with blue cat eyes, the answer is yes.
At the BAFTA Britannia Awards, 2010.
This look is a little La Roux, and we areherefor it. We love the way Marion elevates slightly wackier hairstyles all the way up to elegant with her sleek styling choices; the coral lips and brown smoky eyes are the perfect compliment to this style.
At theSchiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations Met Gala, 2012.
Looking at this picture may cause anxiety in those of us who have tried to grow out bangs gracefully, but never fear: these are a clip-in hairpiece chopped unevenly to give Ou Lady Marion adorable baby bangs. It's all very Amelie meets Zoey Deschanel, but with a seriously cool attitude.
At theDe Rouille et D'os premiere, 2012.
This was a controversial hairstyle choice at the time, but this gigantic bun is legitimately one of our dream hairstyles. It's over the top! It's fun! It's glamorous! OBSESSED.
Just in case you wanted to see it from the back and swoon.
At theDark Knight Risespremiere, 2012.
Slightly smudgy cat eyes, bright orange lipstick and deep-parted hair that's voluminous on one side and sleek on the other. You can tell that she's really found the style that works for her: slightly wacky hair, amazing skin, defined eyes, bold lips.
At the premiere ofRust and Bone, 2012.
And here we see another slightly wacky hairstyle: pompadour in front, long, stretched-out beehive in the back. How does she make it look so chic, though? Science may never have the answer.
At the SAG Awards, 2013.
Oh, but does she also look amazing with nude lips and sleek hair? Why, yes she does.
At the EE British Academy Film Awards, 2013.
These lightly ombre orange-red lips are amazing on Marion; we love seeing her keep her hair relatively simple and get a little more elaborate with her makeup!
At the premiere ofBlood Ties, 2013.
Another gigantic beehive, and yet it doesn't look even a little bit retro or dated. Bow down.
At the premiere ofThe Immigrant, 2014.
This could be the best her bangs have ever looked. Just saying.
At theL'Homme Qu'On Aimait Troppremiere, 2014.
Hello, would you like a long ponytail fall with a fishtail braid affixed to the front? Of course you would. Allow Marion to serve you some serious realness.
At the Oscars, 2015.
This super deep-parted, low-swept hairstyle is amazing, and really enhances Marion's big blue eyes and slightly lightened brows. Is anyone else as good as Cotillard at making red carpet hairstyles look totally natural and attainable? She's a class of her own.
At theLittle Princepremiere, 2015.
