We sew from jeans fabric a convenient backpack for a picnic on the seashore
On a sunny day, you often want to dine al fresco surrounded by lush green grass, cheerful birds singing and tender touches of rays of the warm sun! A picnic for this is a wonderful opportunity! It can be arranged on the seashore or the river after swimming, just when the appetite wakes up!
So that's what it's for. Recently, I saw bags and backpacks for a picnic for sale, and I wanted to ... I decided to experiment on three pairs of husband’s jeans 🙂 and the materials that I had at home at that time, so I’ll just say that I’ll replace Some professionally used materials, so to speak, on what was, but I will write what really should be used! And I will share with you what happened! I decided that the backpack would be more convenient, so we sew it!
What we need:
- jeans of 52 sizes - 3 pairs of either Cordura or Oxford fabric - 1 running meter (they are just used for sewing similar backpacks, and Oxford is lighter, but less durable than Cordura);
- lining fabric (I took water-repellent);
- foam rubber 1 cm thick, can be replaced with an isolon or 3 layers of the substrate under the laminate;
- lightning 76 cm - 2 pcs. and 20 cm - 1 pc .;
- oblique backing - 2 m and lace - 4 m (in my case), it is possible and necessary to have a kipernya tape - 6 m;
- durable synthetic threads (polyamide, kapron);
- buttons-rivets for jeans - 4 pieces, this is mine, and we need legs for bags (pukli) the same amount;
- gum 3 cm thick - 1.5 m;
- rubber band round thin - 1 m,
- tips - 2 pieces,
- clamp - 1 piece;
- 3 cm wide sling - 1.5 m;
- single-slot and double-slot plastic buckle 3 cm - 2 pcs. each each;
- and sewing machine, scissors, chalk, pattern, inspiration is also very useful!
Let's start ... First of all, let's make a pattern!
- detail of the front and back walls of the backpack 30 × 40 cm (with rounded top) of jeans - 2 pieces, of lining fabric - 2 pieces, of foam rubber - 1 piece (less than 1 cm on each side);
- details of a botan 74 × 13 cm and 74 × 16 cm of jeans, 1 piece each (I did this, but I recommend to duplicate them with flizelin or dublerin, which I did not have and also sew lining to them (this is correct), which I also did not, and in general did not regret it;
- detail of the front outer pocket 25 × 25 cm (with rounding of all corners) of jeans - 1 piece, of lining fabric - 2 pieces;
- details of a botan for a pocket 74 × 7 cm and 74 × 3 cm of jeans, 1 piece each. (I duplicate and sew a lining as I recommend, I again did not do);
- detail of the bottom of the backpack 54 × 16 cm of jeans and lining, 1 pc .; - detail of the bottom of the backpack 28 × 15 cm of foam rubber - 1 pc;
- detail of the handle 25 × 17 cm from jeans 1pc .; - Details of the inner patch pocket 20 × 24 cm and 20 × 4 cm on one of the lining fabric;
- details of jeans straps mirrored in 2 pieces; from foam rubber in mirrors in 1 piece;
- parts for fastening single-slot buckles on both sides of the lower part of the back (triangles) - 2 pcs.
Next, take the jeans and cut them in this way (2 pairs).
Now we will place a pattern on them and circle all the necessary details described above, with an allowance of 1 cm.
Retreat: in order to quickly circle the pattern with an allowance, just take 2 crayons together and circle all the details around the contour: and quickly, and the allowance is the same everywhere, I note that it is more convenient to do this with long crayons!
Then we cut out all the details.
The front and back walls of the backpack are cut out in such a way that the side seam of the jeans is exactly in the center of each of them.
The detail of the front wall of the overhead patch pocket I carved out of the part of the jeans on which there was a back pocket, in addition it will be possible to put some small things into it.
Details of the botan are cut from the pants of the second pair of jeans.
Parts made of foam rubber and lining, here a backrest lining detail already with a pocket, below it will be described how I sewed it.
I wanted the compartment with the dishes and cutlery to be “fun”, so for the lining of the same part the raincoat colored fabric was taken, or rather, the remains ... One flap was enough for the whole part, and the other was made of 4 different squares. Just sewed in pairs of 2 squares. I connected the place of the seams with a pin so that the center coincided perfectly. Sewed, progladila, it turned out.
Carved out of them part, it will be attached to the front of the backpack.
On this item I will place a rubber band in 2 rows, between which a distance of 4.5 cm:
- the lower band will hold single cutlery (I write single, because there will be a compartment for complex cutlery at the top, we have a fork and spoon for hiking) and glasses, according to my calculations, based on the volume of glasses, the length of the gum thus 2 -16.5-2-2-2-2-16.5-2 cm, and the length of the part is 2-6.5-2-2-2-2-16.5-2 cm;
- the upper band holds the complex cutlery, the salt shaker and the pepper shaker, and again, after trying on their objects, the division of the length of the gum turned out 10.5-12-12-10.5 cm, and the length of the part 3.5-9-9-3.5 cm.
We will sew this detail to the front of the backpack, on the markup, having previously folded the allowances inside and ironed them, also we will sew the lines marked on the elastic band directly to the denim part, so that the lining will not sag under the weight of the devices.
We get this result.
Now we will sew the plate holders onto the second lining detail, for this I took the finished part from the suspenders of the ski suit, I still don’t wear it, at least I use it! Place it in such a way that it is in the center of the part, cut off the excess and pin it up with pins, it turned out like this.
Retreat: who does not have such a detail, take an elastic band or a 15 cm long sling - 4 pcs. + 1 cm allowance, sew a те 2x2 cm velcro on the ends in pairs (it consists of 2 layers), arrange the elastic bands on the side that without the adhesive tape, in the middle of each side of the part (that is, on 4 sides) so that if the opposite elastic bands are joined, they grappled in the middle, it turns out that the plates will be held from 4 sides.
Lining with the holders of the plates will connect along the edge with the main part of the pocket the wrong side to the wrong side.
Now we will sew a botan pocket, for this we have a zipper between two parts, by the way,at this stage you should duplicate these parts for stiffness and strength and sew a zipper between the lining and the detail, there will be a sandwich: the lining detail face upwards - the zipper face upwards - the botanic detail face down, stitch, turn, iron, again stitch over the face, and so both parts ... It should be so, but I have a backpack for myself, I will not carry any weight, I did not do it and just sewed the zipper to the detail of the botan face to face, bent it, again sewed it, and so on both sides.
The result was a bot pocket.
Now we connect it from two sides to the bottom of the pocket, sew it face to face.
These seams close oblique bake, I took the orange, to support the color of the lining.
Then we connect the front part of the pocket with the ready botanum face to face, for this purpose we mark with chalk the middle lines on the part and the nerd, fix it with pins, and then along the circle, it should turn out exactly without assemblies.We will sew along the line from the botan side, since the line lies on a flat surface more evenly.
We will place the finished pocket along the contour of the sewn lining, also combining the middle lines, pinning with pins or tacking, and sew!
Thus, outside we have everything beautiful and neat,and inside you still need to process the seams, for which you can use a keepernaya tape or, like me, a slanting inlay ... Attach it on both sides of the cut, and the lower part should be slightly longer, and sew around in a circle on both sides. That's inside neatly.
Now on this front part of the backpack from the seamy side along the edge we will sew the lining, and this part is ready.
Now let's prepare the bottom of the backpack, on the denim detail in the middle we place the foam rubber part and sew it crosswise.
Then we will install the legs, I have these rivets, as it turned out to be a very successful replacement for the puklyam! We make the markup so that everything is smooth, I put it down 12 cm from the center in 4 directions. Fasten the rivets with a hammer, and you're done!
Now face to face sew lining on the edge.
Now we will sew a bot backpack as we sewed it for a pocket(I remind you that it is desirable to duplicate and sew the lining, and how, I described above)with only one amendment, I want the zipper to be closed, and for this purposeaboutMy best detail is 3 cm wider initially. Let me explain the sequence of work: first, we will sew a narrow detail of the botan to the lightning face to face, we will open it, again we will sew it.Then we also sew the second (wide) part to the lightning face to face, and, bend it so that the lightning remains covered, for this we need extra 3 cm, and stitch it from above as usual.
Now we connect the botan and the bottom face-to-face from two sides, I do not have a photo of this stage, but here everything is exactly the same as for sewing a pocket, and I processed the cuts with a synthetic double-sided lace (this is what I replaced the oblique bake), but it is better, as I have already mentioned, to use the keeper tape.
Prepare the back with straps. Let's take a detail from jeans, from the front side we'll make a markup. By marking, we sew a denim part with a foam rubber one.
Let's take straps, for convenience, we will cut out the details of solid trousers, they will be the same, and save time. From foam rubber we will cut out the same 2 mirror details, but 1 cm less on each side.
On the foam rubber parts we will make a simple marking - a straight line every 5 cm. On these lines we connect the foam and denim details of both straps.
Then, on the marked line face to face we will sew details with foam rubber and without it. And vyvernem, the base of the straps is ready.
We make a loop from the length of the slings 7 cm, and we will thread the double-buckle buckle into it at the top edge, fix it with a pin.Cut the slings 50 cm with one end of the thread in the same buckle, only in the middle, and also fasten with a pin. We sew.
At the triangles, turn up the side 14 cm, lay a line. We fold them in half, and inside we put a loop with a single-slot buckle, sew, the details are ready.
We will sew the resulting structures to the straps for the loop, attached to the upper part of the buckle.
Detail of the handle on the side of 17 cm fold to the middle on both sides, and then in half, and sew on both sides, the handle is ready.
From the jeans, we unseat 6 loops on which the belt is held, and folded in half, distribute 3 of them into the right back seam at a distance of 7 cm from each other, and the remaining 3 mirrored into the left seam of the front wall of the backpack, fasten them with a line along the edge. Distribute the resulting parts on the back of the backpack, tack or stabbed with pins.
On the lining of the back of the backpack will be an overhead pocket. To the lightning on both sides we will sew face to face along a piece of lining fabric equal to the width of the lightning.
And also, face to face, we sew two parts of the pocket to the zipper, we open it, smooth it.
We will sew the lower part of the pocket face to face with a lining, and then, open the pocket in the opposite direction, leaving 2 cm,and sew it along the contour, having previously folded the edges inward, the bottom will be slightly convex, not flat, which will make the pocket more spacious.
Connect the back and lining with a pocket inside out to inside out.
All components are ready, we will connect in the same way according to the marks, we will take the back and the bot face-to-face, or, as in my case, we will fix with pins.
We will sew, paying special attention to the places where we sew webbing, handle, loops and triangles with a sling. In the same way we will louse the front wall, do not forget to open the zipper! The seams are treated with lace.
We turn out the backpack, straighten all the seams.
Connect the top and bottom of the straps. We will sell the end of the sling to the single-slot buckle, turn it up and sell the double-slot buckle to the bottom hole. Then in its upper hole. And again we will sell in single-slot buckle. Done, it is worth pulling the ends of the lines, and the straps will pull up. And so that they do not fall out, the ends need to be tucked and hemmed.
It remains to lace the loops from one side with a rubber band, push both ends into the clamp and put on the limit switches. Under this lacing you can put a small blanket or a towel folded into a roll, and the gum will hold it very tightly.
This moment I have not photographed, but the purpose will be visible in the final photos.
Our picnic backpack is ready!
I want to note that the main compartment of the backpack can be made heat-resistant; for this purpose, all the same parts, except for pocket parts, can be cut from the isolon with a silver coating, 1 piece each. and glue them from the inside (silver-coated inside) with aluminum tape (it is also silver), we will also glue the details to the bot's details, but so that it opens from the side where there is no silver coating, that is, outside our bag (although you can also sew, Isolon is easily stitched). Get a full bag with an insulating coating inside. It will be placed in the main compartment, and you can put cool foods and drinks, it is advisable to put a cold battery on the bottom, then the products will keep cool longer, without it, as practice shows, no more than 1-1.5 hours.
