What are the types of collars?

The collar is an integral part of a set of items of clothing that completes the image and gives it individuality and originality. There are many types of collars, and you will probably be interested to learn the classification.

Varieties of collars

What are the types of collars? Depending on the form, such models are distinguished:

  • standing;
  • flat lying;
  • stand-up;
  • Jackets;
  • fantasy.

The characteristics of the combination of collars with the mouths are divided into:

  • set-in, sewn to the neck;
  • fully wired, which are parts of any parts of clothing (eg, back, sides);
  • removable, that is, fastened and retractable when necessary.

Each species has numerous subspecies, so for convenience all existing collars are divided into categories and are considered in detail.

The stand-up collar is universal, as it can be present in both men's and women's clothes. This look looks concise and gives the image elegance and rigor, as it does not have unnecessary details and does not weigh down the structure.Often stand-up collars are used when sewing outerwear, which is explained by the closeness of most of the neck.

Types of standing collars:

  • The tubular stand is distinguished by increased stiffness and considerable height. The collar completely covers the neck and is often present in outerwear - coats and jackets.
  • The funnel stand has a funnel shape with an expansion in the upper part. To the neck, this view is almost not fit.
  • A single-cut stand is part of the back, shoulder, or shelf of the product, that is, it forms a whole with the object.
  • Mao is a rack with a vertical incision with rough edges without rounding.
  • The Chinese stand differs from Mao by rounding the edges. The model can be seen in some variations of military clothing (tunics) or in items of women's wardrobe, designed in the traditional Chinese style.
  • A stand with bent corners two centuries ago was actively used for sewing men's shirts, but occasionally it is also found in modern women's fashion.
  • The collar is a soft stand, freely falling on the neck or forming soft folds around the neck.
  • Stewart - is, in fact, a classic stand, complemented by lace, running along the top edge.

Standing turn-down

Stand-by-turn collars are found in garments for both sexes, are versatile and can give the image restraint and severity. The category includes two groups: shirt-type collars and polo. The polo model is a collar of small sizes, supplemented with two or three buttons.

Shirts type collars, as the name implies, are commonly found in men's shirts and women's blouses and have many variations. But in any case, a distinctive feature is the presence of two components. The first - departure, located outside. The second is a stand on which the departure is fixed.

Variants of shirt-type collars:

  • The classic collar can be seen in strict men's business suits. It has the departure of strict forms, in the corner parts of which the fixing elastic parts, which prevent creasing, are usually sewn.
  • The Italian collar has sharp corners and wide turndown parts. The button in the upper part is missing, so the entire neck remains open, which is appropriate in everyday style and informal setting.With a tie, such shirts are not worn, but combined with jumpers and cardigans. The Italian look will make the cheekbones and shoulders wider, courageous.
  • Listing popular variants of men's shirts collars, it is worth noting Kent, which can be called a hybrid of Italian and classic look. Fold-over parts are slightly longer than the stand, the edges are pointed and pointing down. This option will fit into any style and can be supplemented with a tie. Kent is able to visually stretch the face and narrow the shoulders and chest, so for the representatives of the stronger sex, slim build will not work.
  • Shark. The edges are acute and small, diverging to the sides, forming a blunt angle at the top of the garment. Option can be combined with a butterfly or tie, tied with a bulk knot. The look is appropriate in classic low-key suits.
  • Tab. The edges are quite narrow and short, adjacent to the rack and are located next to each other, often fixed with a clasp or loop. The tie is appropriate, and its knot should be located above the buttonhole, rising and being squeezed forward and up.This option is ideal for owners of a long neck.

The planar

Flat-faced collars are often found in children's clothes and women's, they are able to give the image a softness, to bring in it a zest. Consider the main types:

  • Peter Pan. The model is named after this character and has rounded edges and small sizes.
  • Bertha is a fairly wide collar, usually covering the shoulders and made of light materials, for example, lace. Option can give the image of softness and femininity.
  • The sailor's collar or gyuss has a considerable size and rectangular shapes typical for seamen's clothing. The model is very specific, especially if it has a traditional blue color and contrasting white stripes on the edges. The cutout can be round or V-shaped. Modern designers willingly include original sailor collars in women's summer blouses, dresses and shirts designed in the actual maritime style.

Jacket collars are mostly male, and there are such types of them:

  • English - the most popular and popular variant used for sewing raincoats, trench coats, coats and jackets of the classic low-key style.
  • Apash has wide lapels, which once symbolized male free-thinking.Today this look looks elegant and brings some retro flair to the image.
  • Shawl collar is characterized by one-piece cuffs with rounded edges. The part is usually part of the garment underclothes and is used in coats, dresses, jackets and women's jackets.

Fancy collars can be found in the original clothing, mostly female. Consider interesting varieties:

  • The jabot is a few frills sewn into the neck and located in front of the buttons. The jabos are sewn from the flowing and forming soft folds of fabrics, such as chiffon, lace, satin, silk.
  • The kokilye is a rounded or oblique outline of a shuttle that is sewn into the neck.
  • The hood replaces the collar and is not necessarily used for its intended purpose, that is, to protect the head.
  • The collar-bow appeared thanks to the legendary Coco Chanel and firmly entered the world of women's fashion. It is a ribbon or scarf sewn to the neck and tied with a bow in front of the fasteners.

In such a variety of collars, you can get confused, but, knowing the basic varieties, you can have an idea about this part of the clothes and make the right choice.
